Bartend It Like Beckham

(05/28/12 7:20pm)

After a 4-1 victory against China at a sold-out match at PPL Park, the Women's National Soccer team headed to Tap House for some post-game drinks and pre-Memorial Day celebrations. We'll call it a scene of all-around ra-ra-ra-America patriotism and conveniently gloss over the fact that almost everything in Tap House was probably made in China. Welp!  Sophia Stylianos (SEAS '13) gets all smiley with legendary forward Abby Wambach. Abby likes gin and tonics. We like Abby. Congratulations to her and the rest of the Women's Team! (And come back tonight for Quizzo, yeah?)

Check Out These Pics Of Commencement 2k12– Get a look at Penn's newest alumni in the university's official Commencement photo set on Flikr. Especially noteworthy: this guy (cheer up, prof!), a sombrero'd dude and some crazy parent taking a pic on an iPad.

Keystone State of Mind: Jay-Z To Curate Philly Festival During NSO

(05/14/12 7:41pm)

At a press conference on the Art Museum steps this morning, Jay-Z, appearing with Mayor Nutter, confirmed his participation with Budweiser's Made In America music festival, which will take place during NSO on the first and second of September. As Philly.com notes, there's no lineup yet, but Jay-Z should have no problem booking Kelly Clarkson. (Jay-Z, book Kelly Clarkson. Or Beyoncé. Please.)

Is Penn Really The Eighth Most Stylish School In The Country?

(05/06/12 12:08am)

Short answer: probably not. Actually, most definitely not. On the one hand, yes, we do have The Walk, but we're not sure that entitles us to a place within the top ten of Stylitics' "Most Stylish Campus in America" campaign. Really, do Longchamp totes and Tory Burch flats classify as stylish any longer? Did they ever?

Shmack Is Whack

(05/03/12 5:09pm)

I'm Shmacked is a documentary series in which some horribly obnoxious college-aged ne'er-do-wells dance and prance about college campuses getting drunk as much as they possibly can, and it is even more annoying than it sounds– like MTV's The Real World, except without any redeeming qualities. Luckily for us, the creators came to Penn a few weeks ago for Spring Fling. The resulting video makes us feel all :( inside.

In Which A Helicopter Parent Tells Us We Have A Drinking Problem

(05/01/12 4:38pm)

Hey, remember when that bloggy mommy whose daughter is a Penn grad student did that shocking exposé on how Penn is awful at tailgating? Ring any bells? Well Sandy Hingston is back and well on her way to establishing herself as the most out of touch Penn parent in all the interwebs. In the May issue of Philly Magazine, Hingston goes on an extended romp of crazy in her wannabe tell-all "The University of Pennsylvania Has a Drinking Problem."

Summer Under The Button Information Session Tomorrow– Come out to 4015 Walnut at 3 p.m. tomorrow (note the time change) to learn how to get involved with UTB over the next few months. We'll see you tomorrow!

(04/24/12 3:46pm)

Hey Juniors, Hey Day– This is a friendly reminder for all 2013'ers that today is the last day to pick up your Hey Day apparel for tomorrow. Shirts, hats and canes will be sold today until 6PM on the second floor of Houston outside the Office of Student Affairs. And remember, $35 is totally an appropriate amount to pay for a cheap t-shirt, cane, and styrofoam hat.

When Any Gutmann Will Do

(04/23/12 2:52pm)

A recent Times Style feature details the– what else?– stylistic and political choices of Jeremy Bernard, the Obama administration's social planner, as he sets up the White House's upcoming state dinner. Who's among those 806 invitees? Oh, is it you, Amy? It is! Except Any Gutmann? Eh, silly typo. We'll let it slide this time. Take us as your date, Any! We make great conversation about blogs, Penn, cats and the Interwebs. Or if you don't want us to talk and just sit there and look pretty, we're really good at that too.

ShutterButton: They're Just Ordinary People

(04/21/12 4:43pm)

John Legend took some time out of busy schedule to chat up with some old friends at his alma mater this morning. Check out this C'99 alum hanging out with Ben– so photogenic! We're hearing reports that Franklin provided the requisite beatbox for Legend's a cappella dubstep version of "Ordinary People." Quaint! We can't wait to hear it ourselves at the concert tonight.

Spring Fling Photo Contest: And The Winner Is...

(04/18/12 1:08pm)

Spring Fling, that wino temptress from Brigadoon, descended upon our campus last weekend, and even if you don't remember what happened, we definitely do. In our first-ever Spring Fling photo contest, we received tons of flingy-flangy pics that ran the gamut of Fling activities. Some were great, others were not so great and some were Instagrammed. (Shame! Instagram is for cheaters!)

(04/17/12 1:04am)

Au Revoir, Au Bon Pain– Many will pleased to hear that Au Bon Pain, purveyor of moonshine coffee (Is there really any other way to describe it?) and $7 containers filled with iceberg lettuce, will not be returning to Penn next semester, as the DP reports. The new cafés in Huntsman will open in August of this year. Here's to fair trade, local and sustainable food!
