From the Division of Public Safety: E-A-G-L-E-S, EAGLES!

rush

Although, as you read this, Philadelphia residents are mourning the loss of their Super Bowl Championship hopes, we can have a good chuckle at the email (copied below) written and sent out to the student population by Maureen Rush, Penn's own Vice President for Public Safety.

I especially like how, at the end of the email, she felt the need to clarify her and the Philadelphia police's loyalty to the Philadelphia Eagles, so as to avoid angering and inciting said "unruly" conduct from Penn students.

A message from the Vice President for Public Safety:

The Philadelphia Police Department has requested the Division of Public Safety to strongly discourage all members of the Penn Community from descending on Center to celebrate the anticipated Eagles NFC Championship victory as was done when the Phillies won the World Series.  Due to the type of unruly celebrations that resulted from the Phillies' Championship—including rioting, vandalism, and other criminal behavior—the Philadelphia Police Department will be operating under a policy of zero tolerance for all disorderly conduct.

Public Safety and the Philadelphia Police would love for the Eagles to win, and we'll certainly be celebrating if and when they do.  We want you to do the same, but your safety and security is our number one priority.  So, as you revel in the Eagles' victory, please remember to use caution and make the right decisions so that you can enjoy the moment in a safe and lawful way.  We appreciate your help and cooperation.

And, GO EAGLES!

Maureen S. Rush, M.S., CPP

Vice President for Public Safety

Poor choice of words... thanks for speaking too soon and jinxing the Philadelphia Eagles! 42 years and counting...
