Unsubstantiated Fling Performer Rumor: Akon

SPEC isn't scheduled to spill the beans on this year's Spring Fling performer until the end of February or early March, but we're hearing whispers right now (na na na) that this year's pick is none other than Akon!  A listing for Fling Friday was spotted on concert listing site JamBase earlier today (but has since been removed), and the date is still up on Akon's Tour Tracker page (screenshot here).

These sites could be totally off base, but as juniors and seniors may recall, this is exactly how the Ben Folds leak of '07 went down.  Akon is definitely more in line with last year's crowd-pleasing Ludacris concert than the vanilla alt-rockers of previous years.  So what do we think?  Could it be true?  Only the bigwigs at SPEC can confirm for real, but if you've got any other leads, you know where to send them.
