About That Sander...

We meant no harm when we posted about the chit-chatty Hub listserv and their request for an electric sander to refinish a table at the Kelly Writers’ House. KWH staffer Lee Huttner unfortunately found our post to be “deplorable,” a sentiment he shared in the email below, which became a catalyst to a long string of responses.

We were just playing around, being the silly folk that we are (electric sanders are kind of funny, no?), and we’d be sad to make Pennemies with any fellow collegiate writers. Plus, we don't discriminate against KWH emails in particular - we like to expose any and all bits of Penn listserv ephemera.

In any event, KWH, we think your programming is generally pretty cool, and we'd love to be friends. Tough love? Can we at least call it a truce?

See their email after the jump.

Dearest Hub,

Since this is the listserv for the Kelly Writers House, we summer staffers find it to be our responsibility to point out all kinds of writing, usually good, but often deplorable. The apparently dispassionate writers over at the immensely popular 34th St. blog, "Under the Button," have taken it upon themselves to firstly not only subscribe to the Hub listserv just to find news stories that they seem so desperate to seek out, but also to subsequently point out that the "party planning/self-promotional list" (we do regularly hold bat mitzvahs at the House, it's a really popular venue) of the House has sent out an email requesting the use of some kind Hub member's electric sander. In any case, please find the oh-so-engaging news story at http://underthebutton.com/2009/07/excuse-me-sir-may-i-borrow-your-electric-sander/. It's publicity! So thank you, Under the Button, for giving us a reason to send out yet another abusive email to the Hub. If you don't enjoy them, I'd suggest following the recent trend of unsubscribing. And excuse us for asking who EXACTLY might read this blog, in the middle of July.

But seriously, if you have an electric sander, we still need it.

Hearts and kisses,

KWH Summer

And since we are going to be friends, we’d be glad to let you know EXACTLY who reads this blog in the middle of July: over 1,000 people a day, actually.
