Your Quad Fling Update

robber12

With little over a week until Fling (or like, two days, depending on when you decide to start celebrating), tensions have been high around the Quad gates. "Will this be the moment they start bag checks?" anxious freshmen ask themselves as they sneak in another handle for their frat/a capella group/professors.

As of now, the main threat to your dorm-boozing will come not at the gate but in the room itself. A College House email states that, starting tomorrow at noon, there will be "health and safety" checks of each room-- a nice little euphemism for an alcoholic witch hunt. There will continue to be random dorm checks up to and throughout Fling, rather than accosting every backpack that swipes in. Time to find somewhere to hide the booze!

Update: All bags coming into the Quad will be checked from Wednesday, April 14 at 8am through Sunday, April 18 at 8am. Cool! We still have time.

Check out the emails from one House Dean and living@penn after the jump, and godspeed.

Dear FH Residents:

This weekend, from noon on Thursday, April 8th to noon on Monday, April12th, RA and GA staff will be conducting health and safety checks of each room.  Staff will be making sure there are no safety concerns in your room and taking note of any maintenance issues.

They will knock and announce themselves. If you are not present, they will be keying into your room to do these checks. All staff will be in pairs.

For more information on the room inspection policy, please see page 38 of the residential handbook.

Sincerely,

April Herring, House Dean

During official Fling hours, Friday & Saturday, 11am - 6pm, ONLY empty, open BEVERAGE CONTAINERS (e.g., water bottles) will be allowed into the Quad.

All bags coming into the Quad will be checked from Wednesday, April 14 at 8am through Sunday, April 18 at 8am.  To keep lines moving, please have your book bags and any other packages ready for inspection before entering, along with your PennCard or other required ID.

The checking of suspicious bags, which is normal procedure throughout the academic year, will continue during the weeks leading up to Fling (and, during Fling, in College Houses where there no official bag checks are scheduled).

Carts were banned from use at the Quad as of March 15th, so anyone trying to enter or exit the Quad with a cart will be prohibited from doing so.

Anyone bringing alcohol into other (non-Quad) College Houses and Sansom Place residences should be prepared, as always, to show ID for proof of age.
