Our Bellies Welcome Hoagies

Hannah McDonnell Wednesday, June 30, 2010Wed, Jun 30, 2010

And now for more proof that Wawa is God's gift to college students (or at the very least run by the Keebler elves or something): the mile-long hoagie.  Actually, it's a mile and a quarter, and it's being built today by the Philadelphia Art Museum to be shared among Philadelphians young and old. Nice try, Subway footlong.

Although this may seem like a perfectly natural occurrence, there is actually a reason for it that goes beyond "because it's awesome." It's Wawa Hoagie Day, and it's part of Wawa Welcome America! 2010. Today's festivities will include hoagie-building, hoagie-celebrating, hoagie-eating, plus some Rocky-related activities, whose relation to hoagies we have yet to uncover, though we're sure it exists. All of this hoagie business is also obviously a metaphor for America, and the values our country was founded on. So Welcome, Hoagies! And Happy Birthday America!
