Strikes Bowling Calling It Quits

strikes3

Strikes Bowling Lounge, the bowling alley at 4040 Locust, is shutting its doors!

Strikes' phone line has been disconnected, and moving trucks have been parked outside for the last day or so. UTB stopped by to check out the scene, where movers and employees said they were packing up and tearing some things out of the space. There were a ton of long wood planks, which appeared to be from the bowling lanes.

Strikes opened in January 2005, with high hopes of adding a new nightlife option to the hood. More recently, as upperclassmen may recall, in March 2009, police broke up a huge crowd of 500+ teens causing a ruckus in the bowling alley. Somewhere in between, we went to a bunch of mediocre birthday parties there on Friday nights where we drank pitchers of Coors Light while pretending to enjoy bowling!

The 4000 block of Locust has seen a flurry of changes in the past two years, with the closing of the Video Library this January and with Saxby's replacing Bucks County Coffee in Fall 2008. Anyway, if you're into playing Dungeons and Dragons at Redcap's Corner or drinking coffee that tastes like cigarettes and mud, the 4000 block of Locust is just for you!

No word yet on what--if anything--will replace Strikes, but we hope it's something sweeeet.
