Stuck On Campus? Go Do Something!

upenn

For some poor unfortunate souls, spring break just means an extra-lonesome week stuck wandering around campus. Whether you're knee deep in your thesis, studying for some upcoming exam, or just lacking something to do, those of you without travel plans need some activities to keep your social skills and brain from completely atrophying over the remainder of the week. Luckily, the city of Philadelphia never takes a break, so there's plenty to do around town. Follow us after the jump for our recommendations (click the links for all the necessary logistical details).

Absentee Mardis Gras at the Khyber Pass Pub (Tuesday, March 8th)

Hop the El to 2nd Street and get all your pent up Mardi Gras energy out at the Khyber Pass Pub. They're offering a Mardi Gras for the non-NOLA inclined, complete with Hurricanes, Pirate Punch, and crawfish croquettes. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

"Ends of the Earth" Exhibit at the Academy of Natural Sciences (Wednesday, March 9th)

Check out the work of photographer Anne Doubliet, who took her camera to the depths of some coral reefs and both of the planet's poles. Showings happen at 2 pm and 7:30 pm, so if you can't make it to the early one, try the other.

Making Time (Friday, March 11th)

Do SXSW the Philly way. If you're looking to dance your face off, try Making Time at Voyeur. It's 21 plus, but for their first event of the year, they've brought in Bikini, a nifty little outfit based out of New York.

"For Kathy Change" Jazz Concert (Friday, March 11th)

Check out this jazz performance composed in honor of Kathy Change, the political activist and performance artist who committed suicide by setting herself on fire in front of Van Pelt's peace sign statue in 1996. It's an original composition, and it goes on for all three nights of the weekend.
