Too Early Or Not Too Early?

Picture-14

We're all well-versed in excuses to skip that 9 a.m. lecture: "Oh, the professor won't know I'm gone," "I can just skim the powerpoint later," and our personal favorite, "I'm still drunk." And even though most of us expend 90% of our registration efforts avoiding these one-way tickets to struggle city, one recently published study advises otherwise.

The study, as seen in Huffpost College, surveyed 253 students on topics such as sleep behavior, academic performance and mood. The good news: students with later classes sleep more. Yay, we love sleep! Also, duh. The bad news: students with later classes also drink more and get worse grades. Wooomp.

The bottom line: sure, you can plan your schedule around Sink or Swim, but that recitation Friday morning probably won't stop you from making bad decisions downtown, either. Sleep is nice, but getting done with class in time for happy hour is even nicer. And if you're thinking "it's way too early to even be thinking about this crap," you're probably right (but don't say we didn't warn you when the incoming babies sign up for every easy class you've ever wanted).
