Penn Med Students Provide Health Screenings At Barbershops

Screen-shot-2011-12-30-at-3.59.41-PM

In barbershops that act as community hubs, Penn Med students saw an opportunity for public health education. Toting blood pressure cuffs and literature about healthy lifestyle choices, Penn students visit barbershops across Philly to administer tests for hypertension. The initiative was founded by third year Penn Med student Sheriff Akinleye, a member of the Penn Med chapter of the Student National Medical Association. Haircuts and free health screenings and courtesy of Penn Med students– doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?
