Absence (Notifications) Make Our Hearts Grow Fonder

Child-with-Kleenex-300x199

If you've ever had trouble putting the "over" in "hangover" in time for a Friday morning recitation, this one's for you.  Introduced yesterday in an email from Dean DeTurck, Penn's new Class Absence Reporting system on Penn Intouch allows students to inform teachers about missing class ahead of time and find out what work they'll need to catch up on.

CAR aims to streamline some of the bureaucratic mumbo jumbo involved in missing class. For example, Student Health will stop writing class notes for health-related absences (time to find a family friend doctor to write some excuses).

Don't get too worked up about CAR, which isn't being used in all courses, since DeTurck recommends directing all questions to professors and TAs like the good ol' days. But if you're truly lookin' to kick it old school, we suggest getting a dog.
