Schuylkill Boardwalk Opens Today

If you're like us and are pretty certain that the Schuylkill (sp?) River only runs between Walnut Street and the Art Museum, you're in for a surprise. Because starting today, there's a new boardwalk in the water near South Street Bridge. In other words, you can run along the River Trail without leaving the River Trail

A thrilling bike ride along the boardwalk might look something a little like exactly like this:

One of the developers pointed out how unbelievably annoying it is to be near the tracks while running:

"We didn't see any advantage of being close to the shore. The closer you get to the shore, the closer you are to the railroad," said SRDC director and CEO Joseph Syrnick.

Like, we totally know what you mean, man! Trains suck!

There's something seriously spooky about the boardwalk, though. According to Alex Doty, director of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (rah rah!):

"I can't explain it, but there is a connection to the water you feel on that kind of a boardwalk..."

Umm...we can't explain it either.

Unfortunately, the views may not be so great...Doty continues:

"While the views of the city may not be as spectacular [as on South St. Bridge], the connection to the water is all that much closer because it's right there."

Can you believe it? The water is right there! Check out the water in this sweet timelapse:
