Chasing Amy: The Fabulous Face Of Family Weekend

(10/21/14 9:36pm)

Check out this email that was sent to all our parents to remind them of their can't-miss opportunity for face time with Queen Amy. Let's just take a moment to revel in Madame President, who looks positively RESPLENDENT in a green top and smart blazer. This stunning image must be the result of an A-list celebrity photo-shoot suited for a Vogue cover – and the results are majestic. Blonder than ever and amazingly fresh-faced at nearly 65 (!), A-Gut has taken glamour to a whole new level. University presidents: they're just like STARS!

Penn Founder Ben Franklin Slays On "Saturday Night Live"

(10/06/14 10:04pm)

B-Frank lives forever! Sort of. Check out this SNL sketch from the latest episode, which features a hilarious take on our beloved, jovial founder/drunken toilet, courtesy of Bobby Moynihan. In the clip, host Sarah Silverman (killer monologue here) pays tribute to her late comedy idol, one-time Penn grad speaker Joan Rivers, in a roast of a roast in heaven. Even with a few flubbed lines, it's hilarious and sweet. We just wish cast member Vanessa Bayer C'04 was in this one!

Skylar Grey To Headline SPEC Fall Concert!

(10/06/14 4:04am)

You know her from singing the hook in "Coming Home" after Diddy poetically raps how "it's easy to be Puff, but it's harder to be Sean." She's also tight with Eminem (see pic) – she wrote "Love The Way You Lie" (here's her awesome demo!) and she's featured with him in Dr. Dre's "I Need A Doctor." AND – plot twist – back in '06, she sang the chorus of Fort Minor's "Where'd You Go" under a different name, Holly Brook. Remember that one?

On October 3th, He Asked Me What Day It Was

(10/03/14 9:31pm)

Check out this email from Penn Athletics, complete with egregious typo of The Holiest Day of The Year. As Cady Heron so deftly told Aaron Samuels, "It's October 3rd." Not THIRTH, whatever that is. We try to go easy on our Mean Girls references, and we're positive your Facebook news feed has repeatedly and unoriginally reminded you of the date, but we had to point this out. Of all days to make a typo, this is the least fetch.

Ashley Hebert, a.k.a. The Ashlorette, Has Given Birth!

(10/01/14 2:04pm)

For the youngsters who don't know, Penn counts a reality television superstar amongst its esteemed alumni: former Bachelorette Ashley Hebert, a grad (we think) of Penn Dental! This one-time Quaker was a contestant on The Bachelor, became the star of the next season and is still going strong with her match made in reality TV heaven, J.P. Rosenbaum!

What's HapPENNing?

(09/29/14 1:32pm)

It's the end of September. In many ways, things are autumnal af and October seems appropriate, but then again, it was 80+ degrees and sunny at Skimmerfest. Fall break is in ten days, which seems logical, and yet our iPhone app promises temps in the high 70s all week. Little is certain in these trying times, but the following events are definitely happening this week, so read on.

How To Get Away With Filming The Pilot Of How To Get Away With Murder At Penn -- And then filming the rest of the season in L.A. Friendly reminder that the premiere of ABC's Shonda Rhimes-produced How To Get Away With Murder is on tonight at 10 p.m., after Scandal. Star Viola Davis' contract stipulated primary filming take place in Hollywood, so only this ep is filmed in our neck of the woods (although the whole show takes place at a "prestigious Philadelphia university" aka us). We saw the trailers in March and now it's time to see if Beige Block makes it on TV – tweet us your (small) screen shots of off campus Penn houses @underthebutton – and Shonda would surely approve if you make it a drinking game!

So be sure to SABS on down the road with your cheap Little Baby's ice cream and Dock Street beer -- and check Street's guide here.

UTB After Dark: 2018 Class Board Elections Bring Saddest Rap Battle of All Time

(09/17/14 2:37am)

YIKES. Brace yourselves, Penn, because this is cringe-worthy. Every fall, an absurdly large crop of wide-eyed, over-competitive freshmen make bids for elected positions of "power" for Class Board and Undergraduate Assembly. We're used to the bad puns and corny vids and the consistent lack of swagger among 18-year-old boys who were recently in high school. (Can you say girl power?)

Display On Spruce Stands In Solidarity With Columbia Student

(09/15/14 8:31pm)

Check out this awesome display on the 3900 block of Spruce outside Pilam. The activism against rape culture comes in response to Columbia senior Emma Sulkowicz, who is carrying her mattress around to all her classes until her rapist is expelled or leaves campus. It's part of a performance art piece for her senior thesis, which has gained considerable media attention. Good for Pilam – and we send our support to Emma.

Shwayze To Be Buzzin' All Over Skimmerfest!

(09/16/14 1:55am)

SPEC and Class Board's Fall Fast/Skimmer fusion event is getting an upgrade this year – in the form of rapper Shwayze, who'll be performing at the September 27 event at Penn Park! Cornell just booked Icona Pop, Iron & Wine and Grace Potter, but whatever, we all know SPEC's real chance to impress/disappoint us isn't til next semester. Skimmerfest is free and open to all years. No word on if we're getting hooked up with complimentary Coronas, but we're thrilled to have the artist who soundtracked a steamy Nate Archibald sex scene in the Gossip Girl season 2 premiere.

VOTE: What Should Replace Einstein?!

(09/03/14 9:32pm)

Since Einstein Bagels' shocking closure over the summer made waves on campus, the western wing of Houston Hall's bottom floor looks like a crime scene. And, according to unsanitary allegations, it kind of is one. And lezbihonest, Houston Market being open at 7 a.m. is not a worthy replacement. Vote above for which of the listed realistic options is your fave!
