Good ole' Philadelphia. The welcoming home of our cozy campus. A place some of us have even been bold enough to call our city on Facebook.
A 'Welcome Back' gift to hundreds of tank top clad gals, Penn has decided to give Pottruck a full body makeover! (Cue chorus of high pitched shrieks) Floors one, two, and three will sport a new layout with machines equipped with all the implants you could want.
Going above and beyond for dear old Ben, Doug Martenson, a fine-arts lecturer, gives our statues the star treatment. This blow-torch themed process (giving us these gems) gives our famous figures the statue equivalent of a facial, and finishes off with a good wax.
Summer session number one is under way and all those looking to pad their GPAs, or just pass STAT, are settling in. Unfortunately for two of those students, one Penn Anthropology teacher was a little too eager to welcome them back.
As final season draws to a close, we decided to sit down with one randomly chosen senior, who may or may not have won a raffle with a profile post as a prize, and allow him to reflect on his last final as a college student. Grab some tissues; this one's a tearjerker.
Channeling Improv Everywhere, theatrical geniuses Sam Pasternack and Lee Marcus use the power of music to bring to life an integral part of the Penn experience--stuff watching. Who actually steals things? What if no one is willing to commit? Who can you trust? Does anything exciting happen in Harnwell!? Watch the video to find out!
You may think that with classes ending and the school year coming to a close, Penn's student groups would also be packing it in for the summer. However, if this week's flyers are any indication, the weekend has big things in store for the performers' closest friends the entire student body. So, put away your textbooks and shut down your laptops because this line up looks pretty "fly." Multicultural Greek Council: Penn Relay's Step Show Some unsung Greek Groups Pull off a super sweet show Hands clap and feet stomp Keynotes A Capella: A Midspring Night's Dream The new group in town Presents their first full concert Shakespeare puns are key Penn Ballet: White Swan Graceful as the birds Pointed toes and pirouettes Tutus and spandex Disney A Cappella: Under the C It's a whole new world Be their guest on Saturday Disney beats Shakespeare CityStep: Intramural Kids and coeds dance Support community schools Cute and not creepy
Starting this June, a solution to the most pressing problem plaguing our city, the inconveniently dying cell phone, has finally been found. As the Philly Post blog reported, ChargeItSpot, the aptly named start-up headed by Douglas Baldasare (WG'12), is looking to install 76 free cell phone charging stations in businesses throughout Philly.
With a 90 percent chance of rain looming, students have found many ways of coping. Honestly, if we can rage in shorts in the hail, why not rage in tanks in the rain?
By the looks of this line, all you have to do is combine frozen dessert and zero charge to have Penn kids going nuts. A small charitable donation can zoom you right to the front (rumors of a 45 min wait time abound), but beware the angry glares of the line-waiters. If you choose to wait it out, do not feel ashamed. We still think it's worth it.
Free Cone Day!--Stop by Ben & Jerry's on 40th St. to get a free ice cream cone from 12 to 8. Don't let the line get you down. It's worth it. Trust us.
Ah Spring, a time for spiked fruit smoothies, lawn centric activities, and, most importantly, clothing donations! In a continued partnership with Goodwill Industries, PennMOVES is giving us more chances to donate. The group installed drop boxes outside of Rodin (pictured) and Sansom West, on Chestnut.
This week's winner is a gift to the senses courtesy of the Penn Philippine Association. Be it the scintillating colors or the awe-inspiring graphics, their flyer caught our eye and left us begging them not to head "back on the boat" just yet. Email 'em for more info about how to hang out with the champs this Sunday. Congrats to the PPA and happy flyering to all!
Never quite got a handle on the whole flash sale thing? Miss the thrill of camping out all night and stumbling into class the next day clutching a ticket that declares to the world "I did it!"? Not to fear! Always eager to please, SPEC is giving students another way to fight for the right to party.
Despite the threatening weather, big things were happening on college green. Rambunctious college students were enjoying a game of human Foosball, while a couple solidified their eternal bond outside of Fisher Fine Arts. We hope coeds tethered together kicking a soccer ball was a planned part of their marriage ceremony (speaking of marriage). Too bad Fisher can't always scare kids into silence.
Seeking an epic union of cheese, sauce, crust, and the occasional topping? Look no further than our very own Philadelphia!
Thanks to the detective work of eager and slightly stalkerish Penn students, another (almost) fling artist has been uncovered. Gigamesh, aka Matthew Thomas Masurka, a producer/DJ best known for remixing "Pumped up Kicks" and producing "Cooler than Me", released an April 13th tour date for the University of Pennsylvania. Looks like we'll be raging Quadside with the Gig-man. Find out more about Gigamesh here.
This weeks winner has a little bit of everything we love: puns, redheads, and Hawaii. We're not sure if we're more impressed by the artwork, or the fact this event has existed for more years than some of the freshmen. Congrats Penn Hawaii Club! Check out the St. Patrick's Day themed luau in Bodek Lounge on Sunday from 12 to 3.
Searching for another way to anger and confuse old people, starting July 1st 2014 SEPTA is introducing a new card based payment method and hiking up the price of a ride.
