Saturday night took a lively school spirited turn. Hoops fans and people who just like to drink and cheer made the trek from Smoke's to the Palestra to watch the epic Harvard — Penn basketball game. To 6,000 (!!!) fans' dismay, the Quakers lost in a "gut-wrenching defeat."
UMOJA Week just got way more fun because Russell Simmons is coming to town! The "hip hop mogul" (and ex-husband of Kimora Lee, duh) is coming to the Arch Building at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6) to talk about his new book, "Super Rich: A Guide to Having it All." Considering he's the founder of Phat Farm, Def Jam Records and one third of Run-DMC, we'd say he's done ok in that department.
With a drumroll, we're pleased to announce the Spring Fling 2011 theme, Viva La Fliñg! Sorry, it's not time for the artists yet but there's nothing like a good Fling (with a tilde!) leak to get your blood pumping.
In a publicity stunt, Relay for Life makes their own (read: copies) colored glove dances in order to raise awareness about, um, one of the most well-attended events on campus. Despite the kitsch, props for getting over 15 student groups (count 'em!) involved and getting the Quaker man to shake his junk on YouTube. Find the original video made at a Portland hospital after the jump.
Everybody and their mom is now on Facebook and the 4th best bar in the country, Smokey Joe's, is no exception. They've used the social networking site to make public those super awkward photos that show up on the screens. Yup —there's now a Fall Semester 2010 photo album. Smoke's regulars might now want to make their profiles private but at least stalking is made easy for the Feb Club plaque hopefuls. Check out some of these —errrr —gems after the jump.
This morning, the DP published something that found...well, interesting, to say the least: it's the 2011 State of the Union Drinking Game! Weird, we thought turning not so fun things into fun things was our schtick?
It's official - Bollywood is going Broadway. Good thing Penn will be a part of it.
