Thought Experiment: I Think I Could Do More Push-Ups Than Wendell Pritchett

Wendell Pritchett, Penn’s 30th Provost, doesn’t seem that tough. I bet I could do more push-ups than him.

That’s not to say that I’m necessarily very good at push-ups, just that I think I’m definitely better at them than Wendell. In high school I was in pretty good shape, and I could do a lot of push-ups. I was pretty athletic. Granted, not an athlete. No, not by any means. But I was fairly athletic. I don’t exercise so much anymore — it’s hard to make time to go to the gym in college — but I’ve always been pretty good at push-ups.

Wendell Pritchett on the other hand: I know nothing of his physical prowess, I just think he just doesn’t look like he’d be able to do as many as I could. You know what I mean?

Provost Pritchett, if you somehow find yourself reading this article, I want you to know that this is by no means a challenge. I don’t think either of us should feel the need to prove themselves. I’m simply trying to express my deeply held opinion that I, Jacob Stone, could do more push-ups than you, Wendell E. Pritchett.
