POP-ED: Hey Champ, How’s College? Your Mom and I Are so Proud of You. Call Us Sometime

Hey, champ!

I figured I’d shoot you a Facebook e-mail since I haven’t heard from you in a while. How are you? How is school?

I know you were really stressed out about that calculus class when we last spoke a few months ago. I hope it’s going better! You are so smart. I could never do calculus, and I definitely could never have gotten into Penn myself. I wish I could help, but you’re smarter than I ever was! I know you can do this!

That reminds me of a joke I heard the other day. “5/4 of people admit that they’re bad with fractions.” Isn’t that great? Hope it made ya smile.

Every night your mom and I sit down for dinner, the dining table feels empty. It’s been two years since you graduated and we still haven’t gotten used to you being gone. It feels like we haven’t seen you in a million years — we’d love if you would visit soon!

I called you the other day and it went to voicemail. You must have been busy, so don’t worry about it at all. Call us sometime if you can. Hearing your voice always makes my day.

Your mom and I are so, so proud of you.

Love you now and always,

Pop
