Letter from the Editor: Enough is Enough, No More Fake News

It is with my sincerest apologies that I write to you today. It has come to my attention that for the past 10 years, our writers and editors here at Under the Button have been fabricating stories and putting them into the public sphere.

I cannot imagine a more grotesque abuse of journalistic power. You, loyal readers, put your trust in us and we let you down. From the bottom of my heart, I am sorry.

In light of this scandal, I have deactivated all my social media accounts. I will be taking a break from the webisphere while I try to rebuild my faith in humanity from the comfort of my family’s timeshare in the Dominican Republic. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers; I know you all will be in mine.

To all the people at Under the Button who let this happen, how do you sleep at night? Nothing is sacred. I played no role in this, of course, because I am perfect.

To every frat boy we have ridiculed, every Comm major reduced to tears, and, quite frankly, every member of the 1%, I am sorry to have misled you. Fake news no more.

Signing off,

Elizabeth Beugg
