OP-ED: My Costume Is Actually Really Funny, You Just Don’t Get the Reference

Hey! Yeah, happy Halloween to you too! Love your cat costume. It’s super cute that you’re a cat – I love cats! From your puzzled look, I can tell that you’re having a litttttle trouble figuring out my costume. It’s totally cool that you don’t get it – it’s a super obscure reference, from a show actually! 

Yeah, it’s probably a show you’ve never seen, and I am dressed as the most random character from this unpopular show, cause it’s obscure, you know? Don’t worry about not having seen the show! It’s really random haha. 

Listen! It’s SO fine that you don’t get it, because I have very particular taste in shows and other forms of popular media, and not everyone is like that! But I do want to make sure we are on the same page about one thing: this costume is funny. 

It’s actually super funny if you think about it, but because you don’t get this obscure reference, you just need to take my word for it.
