Harvest Seasonal Grill and Wine Bar, colloquially known to all from now on as HarBar, is slated to open at the end of this month.  HarBar offers a farm-to-table experience that is both upscale and affordable.  Problems with construction, union contracts, and weather have pushed the opening from June to the week of September 26th.

Penn Class Puts Convention In Unconventional

(09/05/12 2:16pm)

The most exciting part of 2012 has passed, but it’s a busy year, and we all still have the election ahead of us (freshmen elections and otherwise).  While most of us are busy sharpening our pencils and only watching the election coverage from our TVs and Twitter feeds, one lucky class at Penn has been granted an inside look at the Republican and Democratic conventions.

(09/01/12 8:30pm)

NSO (New Student Orientation for anyone living deep, deep under a rock) is in full swing and you freshmen must be overwhelmed by something.  If your roommates, RAs, impending classes, or theme parties aren’t stressing you out, surely some of the lingo you’ve encountered has been confusing.  Your trusted pals at UTB (Under the Button ;) ) are here to elucidate all those tricky abbreviations and nicknames you’ve been hearing this week.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Gchat

(06/22/12 2:47pm)

Gchat, arguably the most legitimate of all instant messaging services, gets even more dynamic this week.  Huffington Post recently featured Penn professor Michelle Taransky’s Gchat poetry as part of their Reading Series.  Taransky’s “Sorry Was In The Woods” is an excerpt from her forthcoming book and subsequently makes us feel self-conscious for not even including vowels in our Gchats. Sry.

Shake Shack Opened Today -- and the line was around the block at the 20th and Sansom outpost.  If you're in Philly, make the trek to Rittenhouse and try the "Liberty Shell" for yourself.  While you're in line, just remember: patience is a virtue.

Penn Cuts Same-Sex Couples A Break

(05/24/12 10:36pm)

In case you haven’t yet heard, Penn is joining a handful of other universities in aiding same-sex couples by issuing them a series of tax benefits.  Because same-sex marriage is not recognized in Pennsylvania, there exists a tax that a Penn employee must pay on a partner’s benefits, although the tax does not exist for heterosexual couples.  The new tax benefit issued by the university is meant to offset this cost.

Penn's Bringing Down The House- After years of negotiations and plans for renovation, Penn recently got the okay to demolish the mansion at 40th and Pine.  It looks like the lot will be used to build low-level graduate housing, although the permit to build is not in place yet.  Stay tuned!

Sex Under The Button Is Certifiably Crazy

(05/16/12 11:15pm)

Since finals are over we don’t even have to feel guilty for reading Buzzfeed’s addictively entertaining time-wasters, and the latest iteration features our favorite campus sculpture.   Our own Hillary Reinsberg includes The Button and its lore as one of the craziest college traditions to rock the country, along with less salacious locales to do the dirty like Michigan Stadium and Stanford’s Quad.  We've always known that we were special!
