Meyerson Basement Gets A Makeover

(09/16/10 10:16pm)

The picture may not be clear but something else is:  Our favorite building with an identity crisis (design building that also holds classes on Autism and Ancient History say what?) is having a little attention paid to its dark and sketchy underground. The basement of Meyerson is officially getting a new lounge so it can finally become as relevant as Huntsman and Williams. Some of the B-Level classrooms were already renovated over the summer but the lounge is rumored to be completed sometime this semester. Stay tuned!

Oatmeal Taste Test...Right Now!

(09/14/10 4:11pm)

Head over to the tent in front of Houston Hall ASAP to partake in an oatmeal taste test. Apparently people are doing a simple blind taste test between Better Oats and Quaker Oats and there is free stuff galore. If you haven't had breakfast yet, are willing to eat free food even if it's healthy, or are an oatmeal aficionado, check it out. May the best mushy bowl of oats win.

New Adolf Biecker Salon Opens For Business

(09/09/10 6:41pm)

If your professors insisted that you go to the Penn Book Center to drop some major dollar bills for your textbooks, you may have noticed a new fancy salon just  a few doors down. Adolf Biecker is a ritzy salon that sprouted from the Rittenhouse Hotel on Rittenhouse Square. It's actually super sleek but unfortunately a nice blowout (the hair kind, not the party kind) comes with a heftier price tag than some students may be willing to spend. Regardless, we're hoping to see A-Gut getting coiffed there in the near future.

Oh, Right...We Have An Apple Store Now

(08/25/10 7:21pm)

In today's edition of things we forgot to mention, the long awaited Apple Store at 16th and Walnut has officially been opened for business. As far as we can tell it is exactly like every other Apple Store in the world, complete with shiny electronics and guys in blue shirts. However, a source of ours noted that flirting with your "Genius Bar" helper may result in free accoutrement for your laptop. Get to it, ladies (and gentlemen, if you're lucky).

RIP GoodCrush

(08/16/10 4:29pm)

According to the good people at GoodCrush, the site that plagued us with emails and offers of undergrad lovin' has officially shut down. It must be a big deal because even IvyGate labeled it as breaking news. But don't get sad yet... GoodCrush will live on as a new site called CollegeOnly. Deets are (sorta) on the actual site but as far as we can tell, it's  Facebook-ish without the random naked people friend requesting you. They're also having a "Facebook Fail" contest where they are asking students to submit instances of such LOL-worthy things as "when your mom liked the poke of your girlfriend after you changed your relationship status and the entire school commented." If you can figure out what this means, let us know.

LOL College Rankings-- Forbes posted their yearly college rankings again. Spoiler alert: Penn comes in at #36. Yawn. Are they forgetting that we feed them billionaires to write about on the daily?

Get A's, Get Money

(08/12/10 4:15pm)

For any Penn student out there with good grades and a love of money (we're looking at you, Whartonites), check out Ultrinsic, a website where you can place wagers on your grades and earn cash. Think of it as the nerd's ideal casino: There's no need to socialize and good grades can earn you an income. Just ask Junior Alex Winter, who reportedly uses the site regularly. All you have to do is give them access to your schedule and records. Not sketchy at all. Even better is that this venture may be illegal and as we know, Penn students do all they can to look badass.

Penn Alums Make A Documentary

(07/29/10 5:23pm)

Penn alums Michael Pertnoy and Michael Kleiman were recently interviewed by the LA Times about a documentary they co-directed titled "The Last Survivor". The film must be awesome because its website is super legit. The doc introduces its audience to survivors from the Holocaust, as well as the genocides in Rwanda, Darfur, and the Congo. Though it sounds like it could potentially be upsetting to watch, the Fighting Quaker movie makers claim that the ending is uplifting and inspiring.

Member of 2011 Fights For Gay Rights In PA

(07/20/10 8:59pm)

The Inquirer just published an article that features one of our very own, rising senior Jason Goodman. As the new face of gay rights for Lower Merion (a Philly suburb, for those of you who aren't 100% Philly-savvy), Goodman has been battling for equal employment opportunities for the LGBT community and fighting homophobia and discrimination. Wonder how the other Jason would feel about it.

GOP Enthusiast Thinks Adultery Sucks

(07/14/10 2:26pm)

Uber-Conservative author and blogger Jason Mattera recently posted an article about stupid Americans and their stupid college classes. Penn must be doing something right because we got a whole paragraph to ourselves! Apparently teaching a class called "Adultery Novel" and analyzing Marx is a big no-no. Also, according to another website, we suck because we are "bizarrely" politically correct. Sorry we take elections and politics seriously, guys. We'll try to lose interest immediately.

Preachin' To The PennPo

(07/13/10 12:41am)

A recent article came out about the arrest of Evangelical vagabond preacher Michael Marcavage. Apparently the boys in (red and) blue picked him and his Christian buddy up for preaching in front of a West Philly mosque. When they refused to leave things got dirty and they were swarmed by Penn Police. The preachers will be tried for disorderly conduct on August 10th. Oh givers of street sermons, you so crazy.

Penn Does MTV...Again

(07/07/10 9:32pm)

We just can't stop appearing on MTV again and again. Pre-frosh Kateryna Brezitska is the newest Penn student to be found on MTV's schedule of re-runs. The reptile lover and Calculus enthusiast (ew), and not to mention...new member of the Class of 2014, was Made into a beauty queen just a couple years ago. She seems to have followed in the footsteps of 2012's Rachel Ashton, who was Made from geek to chic in the previous season.
