Blip-what?

(06/03/11 5:43pm)

Introducing Blipdar, the successor of JuicyCampus' successor, College ACB. Though some believe that elements of the new site may reduce instances of cyber-bullying that were seen on the earlier websites, all three sites are virtually the same. Need proof? ACB's old posts were all transferred to the new site (Sorry, Castle). Bottom line: Blipdar contains the same ole' shenanigans as ACB and JuicyCampus, in addition to a layout that looks more like a pop-up than anything else.

Insurance Office: Pump The Brakes!

(06/02/11 9:59pm)

Guess it wouldn't be our health care system if it wasn't utterly confusing and inconsistent. Student Health Service's Compliance Officer Dennis Shinners has been correcting many-a-typo in his rather important insurance-related e-mails, much to the agony of both our inboxes and our patience. Has he no listserv etiquette? If only papers could be handed in this way...

Oh, HEY Now!

(04/11/11 7:01pm)

Much of the Junior class was rather miffed this past Thursday when they received an e-mail from Class President Jibran Khan that included an image of this year's "selected" Hey Day t-shirt. Why's this, you ask? Because this is the first time in recent history that the t-shirt has not been selected by a student vote. But democracy will prevail! Supposedly, unhappy campers have joined forces and are printing an alternate T-shirt that they believe would have won had votes been cast. Two shirts!? What happened to Hey Day being all about class u-n-i-t-y? Perhaps an election would have been more fair, but if these shirts mean we now have to buy into the whole "2012" thing, then we really don't want the Junior class to graduate (plus, the Cheeto design was our favorite). The Class Board explains why there was no vote in a follow-up email after the jump. To clarify - the Hey Day T-shirt selection process was done this year in collaboration with members of the Office of Student Affairs and other University stakeholders. The voting process observed previously was only initiated in recent years and every year where it has taken place, the consequences were absolutely atrocious: the system had been hacked, votes were skewed, the site crashed, and various other problem made the online voting process not only a nightmare to run but provided inaccurate results. Office of Student Affairs did not want those same problems to continue this year - hence the change in the selection process.

Col·lege pa·loo·za

(04/11/11 12:21am)

The celebration of no jobs this summer liberal arts is here! Tomorrow the College Dean's Advisory Board will be hosting its annual College Palooza (wait, like a play on Lollapalooza? Nice, DAB) from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on College Green complete with "giveaways, fun, lectures, and performances." We're not really sure what this "fun" will entail, but rumor has it a certain cupcake truck is planning to show up. Plus, if the event is anywhere near as cool as the logo, it will definitely be worth checking out.

Llamas And Chickens And - Wait, What?

(04/02/11 6:30pm)

Penn just couldn't wait the two short weeks until the annual Zete petting zoo at Spring Fling: the Upper Quad jumped the gun and is hosting a petting zoo ALL AFTERNOON. Abandon your usual Saturday afternoon routine and go spend some time reminiscing about freshman year all in the company of your, uh, favorite barnyard pals. But anyway, what is it with all these petting zoos this year?

Shhh, It's a Secret

(03/28/11 7:23pm)

Ever wanted to admit that you're one of the thieves who steals their meals during Houston's lunch rush? Or that you cheated on your BIOL 101 test so you'd get into med school? Maybe you have the tendency to stay on the treadmill for a couple of extra minutes just to piss off the glaring skinny biatch at the gym.

Gettin' Groovy With Your Fav College House

(03/24/11 6:45pm)

Harrison kids can break it down! The Harrison College Semi-formal, located at the oh-so-convenient Harrison College House Rooftop Lounge on Saturday, March 19, was a hit among residents and non-residents alike. For $5 ahead of time (or a whopping $7 at the door) party-goers were given free range to indulge in unlimited Maggiano's, face paint, and masks, all in the spirit of the masquerade theme.

America La Bonita!

(03/23/11 5:03pm)

Holy Sisterhood of the Traveling Ugly Betty! America is coming to town! On Wednesday March 30, The Latino Coalition will be hosting actress America Ferrera as the 29th Annual Festival Latino keynote speaker at 7:30 pm in Huntsman Hall Room G06. Penn ID is required to attend the event. Omg celebrities all up in Penn!

This BFD (Ben Franklin Dinner) is a BFD

(03/23/11 3:37pm)

Well, Penn Dining, you've done it again. In an effort to seemingly incorporate Sir Franklin into students' daily lives a little bit more (didn't think THAT could happen, did you?), Bon Appétit has announced that on Wednesday, March 23, they will be hosting "A Modern Twist on Ben's Favorite Foods." Early to bed early to rise is right, as Ben's favorite grub (yup, he hand-picked the menu) will be served starting at 5:00pm and continuing until 8. Menu highlights include: root soup, cranberry stuffing cakes, roasted pork, and sweet potato pie. Hold on to your buttons!
