In Pottruck, there’s the court for people who look like they know what they’re doing, the court for people who kind of know what they’re doing, and the court for people who don’t really play basketball at all.

When Rich Howard (W ’19), a Pottruck basketball regular, stepped on the supposedly elite court, he met Tony Del Rosario—a 45-year old CIS master’s student focusing on natural language processing.

Despite not uttering a single word for hours, Del Rosario was channeling his inner Jordan, hitting countless fadeaways on individuals many feet taller than him. He even got into a physical altercation with Howard for no reason at all—a sign that he truly belonged there.

“Every time I come here, I’m amazed. Not by the quality of the players, but because I’m convinced 80% of the people on the courts don’t even go to Penn. Where do they come from?” Howard asked us.

Del Rosario refused to share comments with our reporters, before swishing a three from Steph Curry range.
