Oops! Instagram Activist Never Registered To Vote

Yikes! Looks like Emily Castaway (N ‘22) won’t be voting in the 2020 election. Despite being a self-proclaimed “activist” and posting about voting on her Instagram story almost daily, Emily is not registered to vote in any state.

“I just keep forgetting to send in my registration for Pennsylvania -- it’s actually a really confusing process,” says Emily, who recently put a voter registration how-to infographic on her story. Emily didn’t register in New York because it’s a given it will go blue, despite her posts asserting that “every vote counts.”

The UTB investigative team has come to the conclusion that reposting infographics on Instagram is Emily’s main way of fulfilling her civic duty, instead of doing boring things like voting or phone banking

“I’m more of a texter, anyway” reported Emily.

“I would consider myself an activist,” says Emily. “Not everyone is putting in the work like I am. In the run-up to the election, I will be posting 3-4 things on my story every day. Not my close friend's story -- my actual story. I’ve considered expanding to Facebook and Twitter, but you know there are only so many hours in the day!
