Quaker Days Update: Dean Furda Drops It Like It's Hot

(04/09/14 8:40pm)

Remember Penn Preview Days? Those were annoying, faux-chipper, crowded and pre-froshy. The new and improved Quaker Days are all that...and more! While there are still far too many 2018ers on campus for anyone to enjoy, admissions has really upped the ante this year, with fancy azz events, including this soiree – which featured one Dean Furda hitting the dance floor. Sources say Eric breakdanced before posing with swooning fans. Check that smolder. A warm welcome to Penn indeed!

Dude Gets Into All Eight Ivies -- If you haven't heard from the bizarrely extensive media coverage, a kid from Long Island got into Penn and the rest of the Ivy League. This almost certainly happens to someone every year, but now that you're famous, we want you, Kwasi. You choosing dear old Penn may be a stretch, but hit us up when you're here for ~*Quaker Days*~...drinks are on us. XOXO, UTB <3

NEC Has Made Their Joyce -- and disqualified Gabe Delaney and Julie Bittar. Because of this, natch. Your new UA Prez and VP are Joyce Kim and Josh Chilcote, and they would've won regardless – but this way, we got a hilarious three hour hearing to live stream! Delaney was also eliminated from the UA SAS rep race. See the UA results here and Class Board winners here.

PENN MADNESS, Volume IV: Round 1!

(03/23/14 7:12pm)

Those of you who sports, we salute you. We hope your DP March Madness bracket is doing splendidly. (Go Duke!) For the rest of us, it's time for Under the Button's fourth annual PENN MADNESS. Last year, the grand prize went to that saucy minx, Hurricane Sandy, and this year, with a new crop of weather phenomena, Fling artists and Greek scandals, the competition is stiffer than ever. May the odds be ever in the contestants' favor – cast your votes in Round 1 now!

Attention Headliner SPECulators -- Perelman Quad at 9 p.m. tonight is the place to be for a big reveal. Will the reaction be a ra ra riot of excitement or disappointment? Less than seven hours to go...

FLING OPENER #2: RA RA RIOT

(03/20/14 12:00pm)

"Ra Ra Riot" was sort of what went down last year when the Fling headliner was eventually announced, but now it's 2014's second opening band, UTB can officially confirm. They're no Janelle Monae, but the indie rock group has quite a following. Still, the Riot is not as big as the last alternative band opener, leading us to believe that the Magic Man/Ra Ra ticket is affordable enough to save room for a big azz headliner. Last year, two highish-profile openers led to an anticlimax, so this year, we expect two lower-profile acts to make way for a star. [poll id="75"]

FEDERAL DONUTS REALLY OPENING MONDAY -- After a confusing tweet saga last time, UTB can officially confirm the Sansom location is coming for us on March 10 (yes, break)! Shout it from the rooftops.

Penn Alum Wins Oscar, Is Not Lupita

(03/03/14 10:44pm)

Yale Drama School may have the flawless Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong'o as an alumna, but Penn has cause for celebration this post-Oscar Monday. (Maybe not as much cause as Lupita's brother, though, who got in on the ultimate selfie of all time.) A big congratulations to Morgan Neville (C'89), director and producer of "20 Feet From Stardom," the hit film about backup singers that won an Academy Award last night for Best Documentary! His speech was perhaps overshadowed by the legendary Darlene Love, a subject of the movie, slaying an impromptu musical performance, complete with standing-O – but as you can see above, Neville couldn't be happier. (This went down before John Travolta slayed the iconic Idina Menzel's name, in a bad way.) Mazel tov, Morg – you join the ranks of our Tony, Emmy and Grammy-winning alumni.

Chasing Amy: Strut Like You Mean It

(02/22/14 9:26pm)

Madame President is out in full force this weekend, mingling with the masses on campus as the sun eminating from her perfect blonde locks melts the snow. A source informs us A-Gut made her annual sports appearance last night and was spotted at the Penn-Harvard basketball game (we lost), even playing the xylophone with the Penn Band! Today, she's rocking a to-die-for jacket while sauntering arm-in-arm with her elusive hubby on Locust, where she was last spotted one year ago. Thank you for gracing us, Amy G – get up when you feel it, it's your time chance to shine.

V-Bayer On Her Bloomers Insider With Outgoing SNL Icon Seth Meyers

(02/19/14 9:03pm)

As if Seth Meyers didn't make us swoon enough, it turns out the soon-to-be Late Night host has a running inside joke with Penn alum and SNL star Vanessa Bayer about Bloomers, her old all-female comedy troupe! Watch this emotional Saturday Night Live cast and crew sendoff to Sethy above, but if you must skip, VB starts babbling about Seth cutting a Bloomers reference from the show at 4:15. Vaness, you've got to send us pics of him rocking that tee during final read-through! Pretty cool.

UTB After Dark: More Than A Nip Slip (NSFW)

(02/17/14 4:13am)

Everyone would be more than okay with this weekend being a wrap on snow for the winter. Luckily, some brilliant Penn17ers made the most of the stuff before it melted into slush and black ice. Mucho love and kudos to the inhabitants of the Nipple in Fisher Hassenfeld, who crafted this uber-explicit work of art. The visionary Quad frosh helped this snowman and woman get down with their bad selves, complete with kinky props and (real?) glasses. As a former Nipple dweller, this post's author salutes his successors' masterpiece, which is easily the best snow sculpture to hit campus in three years. So proud.
