Gifts To Leave Under The Button

Snow blanketed the eastern seaboard yesterday, and despite the picturesque quality it lent to our homecoming, today we find ourselves still snowed in and thus unable to partake in our favorite winter break activities: visiting the mall.  Luckily, our internet connection is working and amazon.com is almost as good as the real thing.  What follows is a last-minute holiday gift guide, conveniently featuring items that can be purchased online and shipped to you by December 24th.  (We're leaving out the gift suggestions that have already been posted about.  And if you're wondering whether "holiday gift guide" is a label that's being used to mask the fact that this is really just a list of stuff your editor wants, well...so be it.)

1. For the sister, female cousin or Michael Gold in your life:  Everyone forgets that before Chuck was awesome, he was an attempted date rapist.  Relive the simpler times with Gossip Girl - The Complete First Season on DVD.

2. Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List is the latest novel from the authors of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (which became a movie staring Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, as you'll recall).  But Naomi and Ely sounds even better (and more realistic) than Nick and Norah because it's about a love triangle between a girl, her boyfriend, and her gay best friend.  Um, amazing--and the movie can star Kat Dennings and Zac Ephron!  As the gay best friend...you know, playing against type, because he's the epitome of heterosexuality.

3. Every girl born between roughly 1986 and 1989 has a proprietary relationship with the Olsen twins--we can't help ourselves from paying attention to who they're dating (an interchangable series of skeezy club owners and/or scions of rich families), what they're wearing, and which one is skinnier at any given time (MK was winning for a while but they seem about even now).  Anyway, so the fact that they "wrote" a book this year is kind of ridiculous, but because of our aforementioned obsession, we want it anyway.  It's called Influence, it features their interviews with famous stylish people like Diane von Furstenberg, and we would absolutely die to have our own copy.

4. Were you aware that Mamma Mia has surpassed Titantic to become the highest grossing film in British history?  Though we enjoyed the movie, some of our friends thought it was worst piece of crap ever, so it's sensation status across the pond certainly is a testament to...something.  Whatever, you either like it or you don't.  But we can promise that If you buy it, you'll have all sorts of interesting thoughts, chief among them that, "haha, the professor from Good Will Hunting has really aged."  Mamma Mia! The Movie (Two Disc Special Edition) awaits you.

5.  Watching Oprah's show can be kind of sickening, but reading O, The Oprah Magazine allows you to take in her cheesy "live your best life!" advice in more digestible pieces.  And it's portable!  We've been known to buy a copy of O around midterms to bring to Van Pelt, because during times like that, reading about actor Timothy Hutton's Aha! Moment (see pg. 57, January O) provides us with some small measure of comfort.  Get a 1-year subscription here.

Since this wishlist is most suited for 12-year-old girls, let us know what we left off in the comments.
