Because Summer Makes You Miss College

dl2

We love college, but we hate school. That is, we love Smoke's and Fling and the Quad and living as quasi-adults sans any real responsibility, but we hate exams and term papers and idiot TAs and sleep-deprivation. Summer is the time when we relish in the lack of schoolwork (though some of us are getting a taste of that whole 9-5 thing...which is another story), but miss that late night trip to FroGro after Kweder. Fear not! There are not one but two ways you can get your college-not-school fix during these long summer months.

While you were busy cramming for that last round of midterms, MTV premiered College Life. The ambitious premise has eight kids at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (the perennial Playboy party school list topper that fell to an embarrassing #6 this year) equipped with cameras so they can self-document their college experiences (we're guessing MTV couldn't get permission to invade dorms, dining halls, and lecture spaces with their omnipresent production crews). The result is mildly compelling, as we remember all the things that make freshman year so weird: college housing, random roommates, the "dating" scene. We feel for Lindsay when her pseudo-boyfriend goes back to his high school flame, and hate Kevin for being such a quintessential tool. And the silly Wisconsin accents make us giggle. Check out new episodes Mondays at 10:30 EST on MTV, and catch up on old episodes at mtv.com.

If satire is more your style, check out Dorm Life, a mockumentary web series that's been around since February 2008. Conceived by some kids over at UCLA, the show is Office-style hysterical. Dorm Life tackles hallcest, rush, power-tripping RAs, and oh-so-much more in each frighteningly apt webisode. It also makes us wonder why we didn't go to a school where we could slide 'n' slide in January. New episodes are posted every Monday at dorm-life.com.
