Penn InTouch Now Only A Decade Behind The Times

We don't always have the nicest things to say about Penn InTouch, that archaic tool that makes it difficult for us to register for classes, check our transcripts, and change our contact info (seriously, we don't still live in the Quad!). However, this weekend the new Penn InTouch was unveiled (just in time for the frosh to start using their PennKeys and freaking out about advanced registration). And it is such an improvement we won't even complain that the worksheet function still needs a makeover.

Let's take a tour!

  • The home page displays all sorts of pertinent stuff: your photo (weird, but whatever), academic stats (major, advisor, expected graduation date), important deadlines. Most novelly, you can also view your schedules from all past semesters in that easy-to-view iCal-like format used in the course planning tool.
  • The course planning tool and registration tool are integrated so that you can easily register for classes without having to do any annoying cross-referencing between multiple browser windows. Though mock schedules are for planning purposes only, they (along with your course cart) are fed into the registration tool for easy course requesting.
  • You can actually view your grades without having to look at your transcript! Two thumbs way up for that. Grades are updated in real time on the grades page, though your GPA can only be accessed via your transcript. However, transcripts can be viewed as many times as you want — none of that 3-times-a-day nonsense.
  • Billing, financial aid, employment, and contact info are all streamlined as well.
