A Message To The Penn Community:

This past week, the University of Pennsylvania lost an important figure. As the New York Times states: “Jimmy Buffett, Roguish Bard of Island Escapism, Is Dead at 76.” His, “Country-tinged soft rock celebrated the laid-back culture of the Florida Keys on the Caribbean coast of the US.” (The Guardian) As a nation – and a school – we mourn his, “self-deprecating songs [that] conjured a world of sun, salt water and nonstop parties animated by the calypso country-rock of his limber Coral Reefer Band.” (NYT)

While we might never know if he found that lost shaker of salt, he will always be the man (as Variety states,) whose “laid-back, good-humored, often tropically-themed brand of country-laced pop spawned a lucrative one-man business empire." In addition to his thriving musical career, he, “turned that celebration of loafing into a billion-dollar empire of restaurants, resorts and frozen concoctions.” (AP News)

In honor of this revolutionary of humble beginnings and invaluable endings,

I, Liz Magill, will be hosting a Margarita Social on College Green this Sunday at 4:00 PM

We hope to provide the community a space to mourn a folk hero who touched Parrot Heads across the world. Live music will be performed by the Jimmy Buffett revival band.

We kindly remind you of the services available to you from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Additionally, we will be compiling a list of resources that could be of aid to you, including a little ditty known as 'Margaritaville'.

Sincerely Yours,

Liz and Beth
