Flyerer of the Week: 4A's Aida

2014-03-27-12.03.07

Fretting about which show ticket to spend that precious Wharton behavioral lab money on?  For this week's Flyerer of the Week, we spent time with some 4A (African American Arts Alliance) walkshifters and got some reasons why their show is the place to be this weekend.

So who are you and why are you out here? We're Penn's premiere African American theatre company and we are putting on "Aida", one of Elton John and Tim Rice's lesser-known musicals. Every show 4A has done is amazing, but I think this one is definitely the biggest and best; we're really pushing ourselves this semester. And I'm here because it's my shift and I've just decided to skip Geology.

Rock on.  What makes "Aida" stand out from the other 24,601 shows this weekend? I'm honestly brought to tears every time I hear the leads sing--you will cry like a whale, like you will be literally blubbering. I don't even know how you can sit through the entire show and not be changed forever.

Wow, sounds intense.  Can you give us a brief plot description for our not-so-musical theatre savvy readers? It's about a Nubian princess named Aida who is captured and taken into slavery by an Egyptian captain. Aida and the captain then obviously fall in love, but it's a problem because Aida's owner is actually the captain's fiancée.

Jeez, so much drama.  Speaking of scandal, anything dramatic ever happen to you while on Locust? Well I actually just saw a DFMO so....

Awks, I feel ya pain.  So any pro-tips for other flyerers of Locust? You can always tell who is going to take a flyer if they already have one in their hand. People that take one flyer will take them all. Also, on the walk, you are friends with everyone. That girl from your freshman year recitation? Yeah you guys are besties now and she is getting a flyer.

Okay any final remarks? Basics beware. Aida is coming...oh and our show is Friday at 6 pm, Saturday at 1 pm and 9 pm in the Prince Theater in Annenberg. Tickets are $10 on the walk, $12 at the door, and $8 for groups of 6 or more. We'd love to see you there!
