A week ago, Matt Vilsack (C ‘22) decided to live life in the fast lane. While writing his 12-page final paper for HIST 212, he did something so daring and ballsy that even the crew of Jackass would have to give him props.

Vilsack opened up a new document in Google Drive and just started writing. Throwing caution to the wind, he left his essay in the default font — 11pt Arial — instead of immediately updating it to the standard 12pt Times New Roman font. “I don’t know what’s gotten into me,” Vilsack said. “I just wanted to be spontaneous, fun, exciting for once. I haven’t even double spaced it yet. Who knows how long this paper will be! I’ll just have to find out when it’s finished.”

Vilsack was beginning to insert his footnotes when he finally decided to stop the madness: he changed his font to 12pt TNR double spaced. When he saw that he had accidentally written two pages over the project maximum, Vilsack realized he had made a grave mistake.

“Oh god, why did I try new things?” Vilsack lamented. “I thought I was being fun and impulsive, but instead I’ve just gone and mucked things up again. I’m never taking another risk," he said while typing furiously at 11:58 p.m.
