A struggling Under the Button writer has one person left who believes in his abilities: his grandma.

“Evan has been having a rough patch recently; his last article definitely bombed. But I know Evan and I know he’ll do well,” Evan’s grandma Evelyn Sharpe said. Evan declined to comment for this story. Evelyn has been a loyal fan of Evan’s pitiful attempts at satire, often serving as the sole like on his articles’ social media posts.

Evan has struggled to make the leap from cracking jokes at family dinners or retweeting funnier people to cranking out solid satire twice a week but his grandma was quick to point out that he was also slow to learn the alphabet. “Out of all my grandkids Evan was the one who most appreciated the fable of The Tortoise and the Hare.”

She noted Evan’s perseverance in the field of comedy including being rejected by Under the Button twice. “I actually mailed a letter of recommendation to the editor the third time to let them know how funny and clever the real Evan is.” According to her, it’s only a matter of time till Evan’s satirical talent reveals itself and he ascends the “Most Read” section on the UTB website.

Evelyn has been reading her grandson’s writing since kindergarten and is extremely proud of his progress. “I remember when this smiley little guy put two words together all those years ago and now look at him: 250 word pieces!” she said.
