Daniel Goldchen (SEAS 26’), a Penn Senior who recently transferred from CIS to AI in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), died from suicide on January 16th after tragically being asked if he was concentrating in ‘Artificial Intelligence for Business,’ a new offering under Wharton’s OIDD department.

A vigil was held in his honor outside Amy Gutmann Hall on Sunday, where his peers and professors spoke in remembrance.

“Folks, this isn’t Wharton,” said Rajiv Gandhi, professor of CIS 1210, a course Daniel was a TA for. “Don’t ever confuse us for Wharton ever again you blasted motherfuckers!” he sobbed to the crowd of mourning engineers, shaking his fists at the sky.

We contacted Wharton for comment, but the spokesperson was unaware of the existence of the School of Engineering entirely.

The CIS Department has announced that in Daniel’s honor, January 16th will henceforth be the “Day of SEAS AI Major Visibility”. Plans for the inaugural celebration next year already include a second vigil, along with spraying fart spray into Wharton professors’ cars.
